Abstract

Postpartum is part of maternity nursing that focuses on mothers, families, and newborns. One of the problems of postpartum mothers is breast swelling, a condition where the breasts feel full and painful on the third and fourth days after giving birth. One thing that can be done as a non-pharmacological management of breast swelling pain is warm compresses. This study aims to determine the application of therapy before and after giving warm compresses to reduce breast swelling pain in postpartum mothers. The research method used is a descriptive method that focuses on case studies with data collection techniques on two respondents, to determine the scale of pain and the scale of breast swelling. The application of warm compresses is carried out 3 times in 3 consecutive days for 15-20 minutes. The instruments used for pain are NRS (numeric rating scale) and breast swelling scale SPES (six point engorgement scale). The results of the study showed that both subjects experienced a decrease in breast swelling scores, the SPES value of subject I, score 6 to score 4 and subject ll, from score 5 to 3 and the NRS value of subject l from 6 to 5 and subject ll from 6 to 3. This study was conducted at the UPTD Kuta Alam Health Center Work Area, Banda Aceh City. The conclusion is that the application of warm compress therapy can reduce breast swelling pain in postpartum mothers. The application of warm compresses can be used as one of the complementary interventions for nursing in reducing breast swelling pain in postpartum mothers
