Abstract

A pregnant woman is a woman who is carrying a pregnancy, starting from conception until the birth of the fetus. Emesis gravidarum is a common complaint during early pregnancy and is also a physiological condition. Non-pharmacological therapy for emesis gravidarum can be done by administering peppermint aromatherapy. Peppermint is known to be a safe and effective treatment for emesis gravidarum in pregnant women. The aim of this research is to describe the effectiveness of peppermint aromatherapy in alleviating emesis gravidarum in pregnant women. The data collection methods used include assessment sheets, observation, and the use of the PUQE (The Pregnancy-Unique Quantification of Emesis and Nausea) measurement tool. This study was conducted over 7 days from December 21st to December 30th in Gampong Panterik, Lueng Bata Subdistrict, Banda Aceh City. The results of the study showed a decrease in emesis gravidarum after the application of peppermint aromatherapy to both subjects. In subject 1, the PUQE score decreased from 8 to 1, and in subject 2, the score decreased from 5 to 1. It is expected that pregnant women experiencing emesis gravidarum can use peppermint aromatherapy as a non-pharmacological therapy to reduce emesis gravidarum.
