Rheumatoid arthritis commonly affects elderly individuals over the age of 60, characterized by joint
inflammation that leads to pain, stiffness, weakness, redness, swelling, and a warm sensation. This
study aims to describe nursing care by applying sugar palm fruit (kolang-kaling) therapy to reduce
joint pain levels in elderly patients with rheumatoid arthritis in Gampong Neusok, Darul Kamal
District, Aceh Besar. The research used a descriptive case study approach involving two elderly
participants selected based on specific criteria. Data collection was conducted through interviews
and observations using the Numerical Rating Scale (NRS) and observation sheets. Results showed
that after 7 days of kolang-kaling therapy, pain levels in subject I decreased from 6 to 1, and in
subject II from 6 to 2. These findings indicate that kolang-kaling therapy is effective as a non-
pharmacological intervention for reducing joint pain in elderly individuals with rheumatoid arthritis.
