Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a disease characterized by high blood glucose levels and accompanied by

disorders of carbohydrate, lipid and protein metabolism as a result of insulin function insufficiency

which can cause complications in several body organs such as eye disorders, kidney damage, nerve

and cardiovascular damage. One intervention in reducing blood sugar levels in diabetes mellitus

sufferers is providing foot exercise therapy. This is because foot exercises can reduce blood glucose

levels to prevent injuries and help improve blood circulation in the feet. This research aims to

describe the application of foot exercises in reducing blood sugar levels in diabetes mellitus sufferers.

This type of research is descriptive using a case study approach method. This study used an informed

consent sheet, observation sheet, assessment sheet, and SOP for foot exercises, a glucometer. This

research was conducted from 23 to 27 December 2024 on two respondents suffering from type II

diabetes mellitus in the UPTD Working Area of the Ulee Kareng Health Center, Banda Aceh City.

This research was carried out once per day for 5 consecutive days with a duration of 30 minutes. The

results of the study showed that the blood sugar level before the intervention in subject 1 was 295

mg/dl and subject ll was 317 mg/dl. Blood sugar levels after intervention in subject l were 230 mg/dl

and subject II was 197 mg/dl. The research results show that the application of foot exercises is

effective in reducing blood sugar levels in diabetes mellitus sufferers. It is hoped that foot exercises

can be used as an intervention to reduce blood sugar levels in diabetes mellitus sufferers.
