ANALYSIS OF APPLICATION OF CUPPER THERAPY IN REDUCING CHOLESTEROL LEVELS IN HYPERCOLESTEROLEMIA PATIENTS

Abstract

Hypercholesterolemia is a cholesterol level that exceeds from normal threshold caused by fat metabolism disorders. Hypercolesterelomia can lead to the emergence diseases such as coronary heart disease, hypertension, impaired liver function, and diabetes. One of the non-pharmacological treatments that can be done on hypercholesterolemia is cupping therapy. The purpose of this literature review was to analyze the application of cupping therapy in reducing cholesterol levels in hypercholesterolemic patients based on empirical studies in the last ten years by using PICO framework (problem/population, intervention, comparation, and outcome). The design of this research is a literature review. This study method was carried out by analyzing the literature related to cupping therapy in reducing cholesterol levels in hypercholesterolemic patients from the Google Scholar database as many as 5 journals were analyzed. The results of this analysis based on the literature review showed that the application of cupping therapy was effective in reducing cholesterol levels in patients of hypercholesterolemia. The analysis of this study can be used as an additional reference in developing science in the field of nursing education. It is suggested that this cupping therapy can be applied by nurses in reducing the cholesterol levels in patients with hypercholesterolemia.
