Abstract

Laparatomy is a surgical procedure performed by incising the layers of the abdominal wall. This can cause pain, non-pharmacological, by applying lemon aromatherapy. Aromatherapy with lemon can reduce pain through the olfactory nerve. This study aims to determine the description of lemon aromatherapy in reducing pain scales in post-laparotomy patients. This type of research is descriptive with a case study approach. Data collection techniques in the form of observation and interviews with both subjects, which were carried out for 6 days. The application of lemon aromatherapy is done once for 5 minutes and evaluated every day 10 minutes after giving therapy. The results of this study indicate a decrease in the pain scale after the application of lemon aromatherapy as evidenced by the reduced pain scale, which can be seen in subject I experiencing a decrease in pain scale from a pain scale of 5 to 2, as well as subject II from a scale of 4 to 2. The application of lemon aromatherapy is effective. in reducing the pain scale in post-laparotomy patients. Nurses can perform and take advantage of the application of lemon aromatherapy in reducing pain in post-laparotomy patients.
