Abstract

Generally, elderly individuals experiencing hypertension are aged 60-70 years old. Hypertension has become a deadly disease, commonly found in both developed and developing countries. The purpose of this study is to determine the influence of garlic decoction in reducing blood pressure in elderly individuals with hypertension. The research design is descriptive with a case study method. Data collection techniques in this study include interviews, observations, and physical examinations. The respondents in this study are 2 elderly individuals with specific criteria: cooperative clients willing to apply garlic decoction, aged 60-70 years old, with either grade 1 or grade 2 blood pressure, not currently taking other antihypertensive medications, never having received garlic decoction therapy before, and having no contraindications. The research conducted from August 1st to August 7th, 2024, in Gampong Cot Jamboe, Belang Bintang District, Aceh Besar, administered every morning for 7 days, showed that blood pressure before the intervention in the subjects was 160/90 mmHg and 170/100 mmHg. Subsequently, after the intervention for 1 hour, the blood pressure was reduced to 120/80 mmHg in both subjects. The research concludes that garlic decoction is effective in reducing blood pressure in elderly individuals with hypertension. It is hoped that this research can be utilized as an intervention in lowering blood pressure in elderly individuals with hypertension
