The elderly are individuals older than 60 years who are prone to various degenerative diseases, one of
which is diabetes mellitus. Diabetes mellitus is characterized by high blood sugar levels (hyperglycemia).
Uncontrolled diabetes can cause complications such as visual impairment, nerve damage, kidney
problems, and wounds that are difficult to heal. One alternative that helps lower blood sugar levels is
with red betel leaf decoction (piper crocatum) which contains flavonoids and alkaloids with
antihyperglycemia effects. This study aims to determine the effect of giving red betel leaf decoction (piper
crocatum) on lowering blood sugar levels in elderly people with type II diabetes mellitus. The research
was conducted descriptively with a case study approach on two elderly people in Cot Mesjid village,
Lueng Bata sub-district, Banda Aceh city on February 06-12, 2025. The instruments used include
informed concent, assessment sheet, observation sheet, blood sugar meter, SOP sheet, red betel leaf and
water. The results showed a decrease in blood sugar levels from 427 mg/dl to 225 mg/dl in subject I, and
from 229 mg/dl to 108 mg/dl in subject II. The conclusion is that red betel leaf decoction water is
effective in reducing blood sugar levels. It is hoped that red betel leaf decoction can be used as an
intervention to reduce blood sugar levels in the elderly
