Elderly individuals are in a life stage that is vulnerable to various health conditions, one of which is
hypertension—a condition characterized by increased blood pressure due to abnormalities in the
blood vessel walls. One non-pharmacological intervention to help lower blood pressure is finger-
holding therapy combined with deep breathing. This relaxation therapy has a calming effect on both
the mind and body, potentially leading to a reduction in blood pressure. The purpose of this study was
to determine the effectiveness of finger-holding and deep breathing therapy in reducing blood
pressure in elderly individuals with hypertension. The research used a case study approach and
employed instruments such as informed consent forms, geriatric assessment formats, therapy standard
operating procedures (SOPs), and blood pressure measurement tools. The study was conducted from
December 10 to 13, 2024, in Gampong Mibo, Banda Aceh. Results showed a decrease in blood
pressure in both subjects after the intervention. In conclusion, this therapy is effective and can be
considered an alternative approach to managing hypertension in the elderly.
