Abstract

Cholesterol is a complex fatty compound that is 80% produced within the body (liver) and 20% from external sources (dietary substances). Cholesterol can accumulate in the walls of blood vessels and cause blockages, thereby increasing the risk of heart disease and stroke for patients. Hypercholesterolemia is a condition where cholesterol levels exceed normal levels (>200 mg/dL). The aim of this study is to determine the effect of green apple juice on cholesterol levels. The research design is descriptive using a case study approach. Data collection techniques employed include interviews, assessments, observations, and subjects suffering from hypercholesterolemia, with Subject I, aged 44, having experienced hypercholesterolemia for the last two years, and Subject II, aged 47, who has also experienced hypercholesterolemia for the last two years. The measuring instrument used is the Easy Touch GCU, and the data is tested using a T-test. The intervention conducted involved providing 200 ml of green apple juice for 3 days, consumed regularly once a day. The research findings indicate that the cholesterol level before the intervention for subject I was 242 mg/dl, and for subject II was 247 mg/dl. The cholesterol levels after the intervention for subject I were 234 mg/dl and for subject II were 235 mg/dl. There was a decrease in cholesterol levels after administering green apple juice to the cholesterol patients. Therefore, green apple juice is effective in reducing cholesterol levels.
