Abstract

Fine motor skills are one of the obstacles that affect the development of children with Down syndrome. Disturbances in fine motor development can cause lack of independence in children with Down syndrome. Collage therapy is one intervention to improve fine motor development in children with Down syndrome. Collage is a two-dimensional work of art that is done by connecting or attaching certain materials into a frame. The aim of the research is to describe the application of collage therapy in improving fine motor skills in children with Down syndrome at the Banda Aceh State Elementary School. The design of this research is descriptive research with a case study method. The data collection techniques used were interviews and observations by assessing fine motor skills in children with Down syndrome. The sample in this study was 2 children with Down syndrome who were selected according to the criteria. The results of the study showed that fine motor skills before the intervention in subject I: score 1 held the indicator starting to develop (MB) and subject 2: score 0 stuck to the indicator not yet developed (BB). Fine motor skills after intervention in subject 1: score 3 holds the very well developed indicator (BSB) and subject 2: score 3 holds the very well developed indicator (BSB). This research proves that the application of collage therapy is effective in improving fine motor skills in children with Down syndrome. It is hoped that the results of this research can be used as an intervention for children with Down syndrome to improve fine motor skill.
